Reiki Healing Is Widely Recognized As Effective

By Beverly C. Ralph

Some forms of alternative medicine are more popular than others. Reiki healing is a spiritual practice and is considered to be a form of pseudoscience. It does not keep to the valid scientific method as it lacks proof and cannot be tested. It is characterised by hazy and exaggerated claims but many are now turning to this form as an alternative medication. It is usually practiced with palm healing or hands on healing.

Many professional medical individuals classify this as oriental medicine and it is believed to transfer energy through a person's palm allowing for self healing and a state of balance. It was first practised on those that suffered from asthma and abdominal pain with surprising results. There are two different forms and are referred to as the Traditional Japanese Reiki and the Western Reiki.

The word comes from two words from the Japanese- "rei" means universal, while "ki" translates to energy of life. It can get traced to Mikao Usui and his teachings in the twentieth century. These included different healing practices and meditative techniques. One of his students gave less concern to the meditative side and concentrated more on the healing.

A Japanese Buddhist developed this practise in 1904 after he became so ill he nearly died. He went to a mountain near Kyoto where he spent nearly a month meditating on life and realized the power of life's energy force which gave him new knowledge and called it Reiki. He spent seventeen years perfecting the practise and taught over two thousand people during his life span.

Many believe that using this form can help with the recovery of addicts as well as alcoholics. A Rev. Burkert who worked at a ranch in helping these individuals did more than one thousand five hundred sessions from the early detoxification part to years of being sober. When one is coming off from the chemical craving they will often have symptoms of muscle pains, headaches, loss of sleep as well as no appetite and extreme mood swings.

All the clients that have gone through this form of therapy have experienced a very deep state of relaxation as well as having a sensation of tingling, warmth and feeling sleepy. Once it is over they all feel total revived and refreshed. Unlike many other methods this one has no serious side effects and is safe.

Reiki is very safe and can be used even if one is currently on some other medical care. Many are given this treatment while in the operating theatre as well as during chemotherapy sessions. It helps to cleanse the soul and body of any negative thoughts and feelings which help in a faster recovery period.
