Breast Enlargement Toronto And Its Recovery Process

By Shawn Hunter

Women consider plastic surgery as a normal part of life. They have various needs for self-improvement including breast enlargement Toronto. Sometimes it is a matter of appearance or cosmetics, and sometimes it is for the purposes of post-surgical reconstruction. Whatever the reason, the recovery process is vital to avoid complications and repercussions.

Procedures can be either of two types: subglandular or submuscular, the latter involving the cutting of muscles in the chest wall behind the breasts, thus requiring more recovery time. It, of course, varies with the age and health condition of the patient. Overall, there are some generalizations that can be made. It is best, however, to consult one's doctor in regard to healing expectation and to follow the post-op protocol advised.

Recovery requires adhering to basic rules about keeping idle and limiting activity. It takes several weeks for swelling to go down and sensitivity to diminish. You won't feel totally like your old self for several months and may even experience light depression. Your doctor is the one to determine when you can resume normal or even vigorous exercise.

Generally speaking, you should give six or more weeks for a full recovery process. Before then there will be pain and discomfort and some pressure from the tight bandages. Pain medication is normally prescribed in spite of side effects like nausea or constipation. It may be necessary for the patient to get a good night's sleep however or to feel relaxed. Ice packs and compresses help swelling and discomfort enormously and are always the staple of the recovery process. They are generally used judiciously with fifteen minutes on the area and the same time off.

There is no rushing the healing process. It is best to get one's rest and recuperate slowly. The age and health condition of the patient are always factors. Most everyone, however, responds to medication and ice packs after the enlargement procedure. Cold compresses can be assembled or purchased and they are to be applied until swelling subsides.

Numbness is an additional side effect of breast surgery that is normal after nerves have been cut. It subsides in due time like other symptoms. It is best not to judge the recovery process too much and to obsess on things that will be hanging. What you see as the size and shape or even texture of the breasts after one week will not resemble what occurs after six. This pertains to scars in particular which can be pink and firm at first before they inevitably fade.

Do not be surprised to see surgical drains used during this post-surgical time. Since an incision has been made, fluids will likely build up. There must be a way for them to pass from the body. Thus pressure is relieved and healing can begin. There are many areas to attend to and it is advised to have some help for at least a day or two after the procedure. During healing, no doubt you will notice changes in the shape, size, and texture of the breasts. This is normal, but if something looks out of place, it should be reported to one's doctor. Infection is often a serious complication and is indicated by yellow pus and extreme redness.

It takes fortitude and personal strength to undergo any surgery, and it is certainly true of the breasts. Following the guidelines given in the medical office will ensure better and faster recovery. Listen to the advice and follow it to the letter.
