Acupuncture For Back Pain Ailments

By Neil P. Hines

A stunning 80 percent of all humans on the planet suffer from back pain at some point in their lives. It's among the top reasons for people to seek out doctors and ask for medication. It's also no surprise that so many people are looking towards alternative medicine techniques such as acupuncture for back pain relief.

The thing is that modern medicine doesn't really help chronic cases unless addictive painkillers with severe side effects are prescribed. If that doesn't work, the patient will have to undergo expensive and risky surgical procedures followed by a long recovery process involving extended physical therapy. Acupuncturists can produce the same or better results in a quick and painless manner that is relatively very much affordable.

They stick a bunch of needles into the patient's skin at strategic points, and the sickness and ailments just melt away. It's a highly precise ancient Chinese science that has been perfected and refined over a period of more than 2,500 years. This is one of the key components of traditional Chinese medicine or TCM.

Experienced acupuncturists know precisely where all 2,000 of these pressure points are located in the human body. The concept is that energy flows between these points through pathways. The needles are supposed to remove the imbalances and restore this energy flow called Qi back to normal, or as close to it as possible.

It's all very holistic and highly effective when it comes to fixing issues related to the lower back. It tackles the root cause of ailments in a specific area or part of the body, as opposed to a painkiller that simply gets rid of symptoms. A few sessions with an acupuncturist will put the central nervous system into top gear, leading to a feeling of well-being.

Of course, it's still a science that needs a licensed and qualified practitioner. Patients are advised to find out how much it will cost per session, and how many sessions may be needed. It's important that practitioners be licensed because that will be among the requirements if a patient's health insurance covers the costs.

Note that acupuncture is not just a technique for providing back pain relief. It is also known to be effective in helping patients suffering from conditions such as depression, digestive disorders, migraines, fibromyalgia and chronic asthma, among other things. It is also used as a means of helping addicts lower their dependence on drugs by enhancing their ability to withstand the withdrawal symptoms.
