The term salsa is associated with a variety of different disheuces from all over the world. More often than not though, the term is distinctly linked to a type of Mexican sauce. Tomatoes are an integral part of authentic salsas although it has to be said that many salsas are made without the use of tomatoes. Tomatoes and some other salsa ingredients were once prepared using a traditional Mexican mortar and pestle. These days lot of the work is done by food processors and blenders. Although the aroma that the traditional methods bring is much more satisfying than any achieved by modern gadget.

By nature Mexican salsas are supposed to be hot and spicy. You may adjust the spiciness according to your taste. The authentic Mexican Salsas are actually not all that hot. You could consider adding a serrano and a couple of chilli peppers and that will be enough.
