An Aromatherapy Neck Wrap Pillow Encourages Relaxation And Better Health

By Stacey Burt

The current renaissance of aromatherapy began nearly three decades ago, but the use of fragrant essential oils to promote well-being is ancient. Herbal concentrates have played historic roles as medications, cosmetics, perfumes, and in personal hygiene. Today they are used primarily as mood elevators and to improve the quality of life. An aromatherapy neck wrap pillow is a comfortable way to begin enjoying those benefits.

Essential oils are harvested from various types of plants celebrated for their unique fragrances. These natural products have been distilled primarily from herbs or fruits, and retain the unique chemical characteristics of the original. In nature, they are used to attract pollinators for reproduction, to provide defenses against insects and other plants, and to even act as agents that ward off harmful microorganisms.

Herbs store them in internal or external structures. They are termed essential in deference to the ancient idea of the force that exists within every living thing. Extra water is removed using various wet or dry processes to achieve final distillation. The result is a highly concentrated product that can be enjoyed simply by inhaling the vapors, massaging the oils into the skin, or splashing in a fragrant bath.

Many people experience flashes of vivid memory or recollection of feelings when exposed to a fragrance present during past events. The emissions of distilled herbal oils are thought to work together with the area of the brain that processes, controls, and expresses emotion. While not all users experience memory retrieval, most people report feeling more relaxed and better able to face normal daily stress.

Despite claims to the contrary, essential oil use is not a substitute for necessary medications or conventional treatments, but rather an important part of the physical therapies featured by some spas, and an increasing number of hospitals. Some new mothers report that it helps diminish the anxiety and fear that may accompany childbirth by promoting relaxation, and people with depression may also temporarily improve.

People suffering from ailments requiring difficult treatment commonly fall into a negative emotional state. This understandable human response is more than an expression of feelings. It can have real-life effects on the immune system, which may weaken, allowing new disease or infection to develop. Use of aromatic herbs can help combat those feelings, and may bolster flagging resistance.

Neck wrap pillows are filled with a variety of natural herbs, and encased in a soft fabrics. The pillows are U-shaped, and designed to provide support and comfort while napping or simply relaxing. Many can be heated simply by popping them into the microwave for the recommended time. They are ideal for both hot and cold therapy, and come in a wide variety of styles and colors.

Most essential oils should never be administered orally, and should not be used when pregnant without permission from a doctor. They are most beneficial as an adjunct to other forms of relaxation, including exercise, and are a healthier choice than recreational drugs. They do encourage more positive attitudes, help strengthen immune responses by elevating outlook, and create an atmosphere of serenity.
