A Background On Anxiety Therapy In Frederick

By Stephanie Stone

An extremely common mental condition that happens in a lot of people is anxiety and it involves being extremely worried and scared of future situations that would somehow seem illogical. Now if untreated, this type of condition can actually lead to a phobia or even a panic attack out of nowhere. Now if one is interested to know more about anxiety therapy in Frederick, then here are some things to know.

Now probably the most common of all treatment methods that the psychologists would use for treatment would be cognitive behavior therapy or simply CBT. Now CBT will first give the psychologist a deep understanding of the thinking process of the patient before treating it. Just like any other form of treatment, the diagnosis has to be made first before treatment.

Now CBT is composed of two very important types of therapies that are mashed into one. The first is the cognitive one that would attempt to determine the negative thoughts or worries that would make one have this condition. The other is the behavioral one which would then determine how a person would react to a certain that can be a trigger to his worrying or being scared.

Now these two types of treatment will be the foundations of CBT. Now so that one will know all about this treatment method, the concept of CBT will actually deal with how the thoughts of a person can affect his perception of an actual situation. If a person has negative and scary thoughts about a certain situation, then he will always think of the worst case scenario. Now the purpose of CBT will be to try to replace the negative and scary thoughts with good ones.

One of the first things that most therapists would actually do would be to ask some questions to the patient. One of these questions would be what he thought when he started feeling anxious. This way, the therapist is gaining a better understanding of how the patient actually thinks so that the therapist may help the patient try to change the way he perceives things.

Now the second step in treatment would be to then try to replace the negative thoughts of his patient. Now the thing about this is that a little bit of experimenting has to be done first to see how hard it is to replace those scary thoughts with more optimistic ones that are also more realistic. Now if the patient happens to be panicking at the moment, the therapist will first try to calm him down.

Lastly, therapists may also try to convince their patients by telling them facts. This would convince the patients that their thoughts are rather illogical and cannot happen. However, this is only usually done once the patient has already calmed down.

So for those who are curious about anxiety therapy, here are some things to know about the most common one known as CBT. Now there are actually a lot of therapists that practice this in Frederick, MD. For the people who know someone who has anxiety, they might want to bring him to a therapist.
