Some Facts Related To Hypnosis Therapy

By Melissa Turner

Advances in sciences have greatly changed the way medicine is practiced today. However, there are a number of alternative medicine techniques that have stood the test of time and continue to play a major role in many places all over the world including Temecula, CA. One of these therapies is hypnosis therapy or simply hypnotherapy. This treatment is based on relaxation and intense concentration with the aim of achieving a trance state. This state is said to help achieve some therapeutic effects.

In modern medical setup, hypnotherapy is mainly used as an adjunct therapy. It is usually practiced together with psychotherapy (a form of counseling offered by psychologists and psychiatrists. The reason for this is because, like psychotherapy, it is based on the exploration of the life of a client with the aim of finding out causes of physical and mental illnesses. It is also used in changing the perception of various stimuli.

Two main types of hypnotherapy exist. They include suggestion and analytic hypnotherapy. The former type is administered by making direct suggestions to the client with the aim of reinforcing a positive change. This may include asking them to change some negative behaviors or to help them change their perception of various sensations. This subtype is most important in the management of pain.

Analytic hypnotherapy involves exploration of the life of a client taking into account past and current events. This is done to establish the cause of an illness. The focus is on life events that have occurred in the past are taking place currently. Many of these events are in the subconscious mind and require deep concentration to be discovered. Once they have been established other treatments such as psychotherapy can be considered.

Each session typically lasts thirty minutes to an hour. The exact time required is depended on a number of factors such as response to treatment and the nature of condition being treated. Generally, there are no known side effects to the treatment modality. The main downside is that there are difficulties that are encountered when hypnotizing children. This is because, some of the children may not follow the instructions issued.

A number of conditions are said to respond to the therapy with varying success rates. They include phobias, anxiety disorders, depression, stress and grief among others. The treatment is also increasingly being adopted for the management of addictions such as smoking, overeating, gambling and so on. There is weak scientific evidence to support its use in the management of irritable bowel syndrome.

There are a number of contraindications to the treatment that exist. Hypnotherapy should not be offered to persons with psychosis or those that abuse drugs or alcohol. In each of these cases, administering the therapy is usually very difficult and the effectiveness is markedly reduced. When being used in children a special pediatric therapist should be involved.

Hypnotherapy is one of the alternative therapies that has continued to have a huge impact on disease. The trend is to use this form of treatment I parallel with mainstream medicine. It is used in isolation only for a handful of cases. The general advice is that when choosing to undergo treatment via this route, one will be well advised to get a properly qualified therapist.
